Jules the Bison face pot - Kevin Francis circa 2001

Jules the Bison face pot produced by Kevin Francis Ceramics of Stoke-on-Trent, England, circa 2001. The American bison and the European bison are the largest surviving terrestrial animals in North America and Europe. They are similar in appearance to other bovines such as cattle and true buffalo. They are broad and muscular with shaggy coats of long hair. Bison are nomadic grazers and travel in herds. The bulls leave the herds of females at two or three years of age, and join a herd of males, which are generally smaller than female herds. Located in Hays, Kansas, "Monarch of the Plains" is a 1967 limestone sculpture by artist Pete Felten depicting an American bison.
