Darby and his wife Joan were first mentioned in print in a poem published in "The Gentleman's Magazine" by Henry Woodfall whose original title was "The Joys of Love never forgot. A Song". This is part of a tea service set along with a Darby teapot and Darby & Joan sugar bowl.
