Inspector Lestrade character jug tiny - Royal Doulton 1995

Inspector Lestrade tiny character jug modeled by William K. Harper and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, in a 1995 limited edition of 2,500 for Lawleys By Post. Inspector Lestrade, the Scotland Yard detective who is often found assisting Sherlock Holmes or supporting his efforts in a case, is the creation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The Inspector made his first appearance in "A Study in Scarlet". He is described as a little, sallow, rat-faced, dark-eyed man. Holmes, whose attitude towards Lestrade is often patronizing, once described him "as always in a state of complete bafflement." Often scorned and out-detected by Holmes, Lestrade went on to star in a series of sequels by M. J. Trow, where he inadvertently solved the mystery of Jack the Ripper ("The Supreme Adventure of Inspector Lestrade", 1985). The handle of the jug incorporates Lestrade's truncheon and policeman's lamp.
