Indian Boy character jug - unknown circa 1975

Indian Boy character jug produced circa 1975. Native Americans, also known as American Indians, are the Indigenous peoples of the mainland United States. There are 574 federally recognized tribes living within the US. European colonization of the Americas resulted in a precipitous decline in Native American population because of new diseases, wars, ethnic cleansing, and enslavement. The United States, as part of its policy of settler colonialism, waged war against many Native American peoples, removing them from their ancestral lands, and subjecting them to one-sided treaties and to discriminatory government policies. This Indian Boy is a happy member of his local tribe, learning its traditions and practices from his elders. The tails of his head sash form the handle of the jug.
