Henpeck character jug - Stangl Pottery circa 1935

Henpeck character jug in a full colorway designed by Tony Sarg and produced by Stangl Pottery of Flemington, New Jersey, circa 1935. A henpecked husband is controlled by, and a little frightened of, his wife and possibly other women. Henpeck comes with a straw hat that he wears outdoors and when removed serves as an ashtray. Known to Stangl collectors as stoby jugs (Stangl toby jugs), full colorways were original production in the 1930s to 1950s. Solid colorways were produced in the 1960s and 1970s.
