Groucho Marx character jug - Royal Doulton 1984-1988

Groucho Marx character jug modeled by Stanley J. Taylor and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, between 1984-1988. Groucho Marx (1895-1977) was the most dominant and most famous member of the Marx Brothers comedy team. The team grew from its humble beginnings as a vaudeville act to be the centerpiece of a series of crazy, unpredictable motion pictures on the Silver Screen. Groucho, whose given name was Julius, had a signature way of gliding across the stage or screen with bent knees and a furtive air. With his exaggerated behavior and sidelong leers at pretty women, he was renowned for his cutting quips leveled against any target, including money, women and himself. Groucho's brothers were Chico (Leonard), Harpo (Adolph), Gummo (Milton) and Zeppo (Herbert). Their most successful films included "Animal Crackers", "Duck Soup", "A Night at the Opera" and "A Day at the Races". Groucho went on to enjoy a solo career as a film actor, television game show emcee and master raconteur in concert. A cigar forms the handle of this jug.
