Goblin character jug prototype modeled by Robert I. Tabbenor and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, in 2007 commissioned by G & G Collectables for a proposed Myths and Legends Series. A goblin is a monstrous creature from European folklore, first appearing in stories and tales from the Middle Ages. Over time they have been described with varying temperaments, abilities and appearances depending on the country of origin of the tale. However, they are almost always small in stature, ugly in appearance, mischievous or downright evil, and obsessively greedy when it comes to their hoard of gold and treasure. Of a particularly nasty type of goblin, the red cap of this particular fellow indicates that he is from the Anglo-Scottish borderlands and practices the tradition of dying his hat red in human blood. The handle on this jug sends a clear message that this greedy goblin will defend his treasure chest with violence if necessary. A treasure chest, dagger and shield form the handle of the jug.
