Genghis Khan character jug - Royal Doulton 2005

Genghis Khan character jug designed by Caroline Dadd and modeled by Robert I. Tabbenor, and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, in a 2005 limited edition of 250 for UK International Ceramics. Genghis Khan (circa 1165-1227) was a brilliant Mongol ruler and military leader. Named Yekusai, he was glorified as an intelligent, brave and adept fighter. Even from an early age he was regarded as a potential threat to the leaders of other tribes of the Central Asian steppe. In 1189 he was elected the new leader of the Kiyat, and he embarked on a series of military campaigns to unify the peoples of the steppe. In 1206, after subjugating many tribes, Temujen was acknowledged as supreme leader of the steppe and was given the title of Genghis Khan, meaning emperor of all emperors or oceanic ruler. Genghis Khan's campaigns and those of his descendants were marked by ruthless courage and led to the creation of an immense empire that stretched from Hungary to Korea. A Mongolian saddle and battle standard form the handle of this jug.
