Frankenstein's Monster character jug modeled by Martyn C. R. Alcock and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, in a 1996 limited edition of 2,500 commissioned by Lawleys By Post. "Frankenstein" is a famous horror novel written by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley in 1818 in which she tells of a monster created from parts of dead bodies by a scientist named Count Frankenstein. This classic horror story has inspired countless tales and films, captivating generations. Describing the nameless monster’s outward appearance, his creator says he has yellow skin, lustrous, flowing black hair, white teeth and a “shriveled complexion and straight black lips.” When his great height is added to this picture, his monstrous image is complete. Originally gentle, he becomes increasingly hateful when scorned by those mocking his ugliness. He turns to murder, eventually killing Count Frankenstein, before stating that he, too, must rest in death. Saying that he will build a funeral pyre for himself, he disappears, never to be seen again. The monster on a table and a lightning bolt form the handle of the jug.
