Fireman Savior toby jug - Orchies circa 1900

Fireman Savior majolica toby jug produced by Orchies of Orchies, France, circa 1900. This jug depicts the legend of the guardian angel appearing to watch over the fireman as he enters a building to battle a blaze. With the fireman sitting atop the home preparing to enter, this guardian angel is protecting him and forms the handle of the jug. Orchies model numbers are a combination of letters and numbers. The letters are an abbreviation for the name of the jug and the number is the size of the jug. This jug is incised with the name "Pompier Sauveteur" on the back of the house, as well as the designer's name, Foubert, near the base on the right side. This jug is very rare and may be unique.
