Father Neptune character jug - Shorter & Son circa 1950

Father Neptune character jug produced by Shorter & Son of Stoke-on-Trent, England, circa 1950. Neptune is the Roman god of freshwater and the sea.
He is the counterpart of the Greek god Poseidon. In the Greek-inspired tradition, he is a brother of Jupiter and Pluto; the brothers preside over the realms of heaven, the earthly world (including the underworld), and the seas. Salacia is his wife. A green seahorse forms the handle of this jug. This is a pair with a Father Neptune toby jug.
