Fat Boy tiny character jug modeled by Charles J. Noke and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, between 1940-1960. Joe, or the Fat Boy, is one of the inimitable characters depicted in the 1837 novel, "The Pickwick Papers", by Charles Dickens. The servant of Mr. Wardle, his rotund form is no doubt due to his gargantuan appetite and somnolence. He falls asleep at every opportunity despite the calls of jolly old Wardle. Eatables and drinkables are all that will raise the Fat Boy from his slumber. His smile and downward gaze are undoubtedly due to his anticipation of a large helping of rook pie.
