Farmer toby jug - Musselburgh Pottery circa 1820

Farmer toby jug produced by Musselburgh Pottery of Musselburgh, Scotland, circa 1820. The Farmer toby jug is an Ordinary Toby featuring a common man of the time wearing 18th century clothing and a tricorn hat. When not drinking his favorite Porter ale in his favorite pub, his occupation is as a farmer on a leased acreage just outside of the village. Instead of sitting in a chair, the Farmer sits on a mound of freshly harvested wheat. Photos courtesy of Bob Moores of Nestegg Antiques.
