Farmer's Wife toby jug - France circa 1910

Farmer's Wife toby jug produced in France circa 1910. The Farmer's Wife is the hardworking partner behind the success of every farmer. In addition to tending to the house, fixing meals, managing the finances, and raising the children, she also helps her husband around the farm as needed. Here she is, going out at night with a lantern in her left hand and dinner in a basket on her right arm, taking dinner to her husband while he is working late in the moonlit field. The bow of her bonnet forms the handle of the jug.
