Falstaff toby jug produced in Staffordshire England circa 1880. Sir John Falstaff appears in three plays by William Shakespeare. Falstaff is featured as the buffoonish suitor of two married women in The Merry Wives of Windsor and companion to Prince Hal. A fat and boastful knight he spends most of his time drinking at the Boar's Head Inn with petty criminals living on stolen or borrowed money. The Falstaff toby jug is seated in a rounded chair and wearing a black jacket. He is holding a mug of ale in his right hand and a cane in his left hand which forms the handle of the jug.
