American Toby Jug Museum 

Elihu Yale toby jug produced in a dark brown colorway by Josiah Wedgwood & Sons of Stoke-on-Trent, England, between 1933 and 1939. Elihu Yale (1649-1721) was a British-American colonial administrator and philanthropist. Born in Boston he only lived in America as a child. Starting as a clerk he rose to become President of the British East India Company settlement in Fort St' George Madras. He spent his wealth toward philanthropy and art collecting and is best remembered as the primary benefactor of Yale College (now Yale University) which was named in his honor. This jug was designed by Professor Robert G. Eberhard who was head of the University's Department of Sculpture from a 1717 portrait of Elihu Yale. The jug was produced for the Yale Publishing Association and can be found in a rare multi-color version as well as solid colorways of blue, white, dark brown and cream.
