Elf character jug - Royal Doulton 1993

Elf character jug modeled by William K. Harper and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, in 1993 for the US market. Fairy people were called elves in ancient Scandinavia and were believed in long after the coming of Christianity. Mischievous, elves are quite playful and have magical powers. Elves' activities include shoemaking and making children sleepy by sprinkling sand in their eyes. And, as the resident fairies of the North Pole, they are indispensable helpers that Santa Claus could not do without in preparing for his annual Christmas Eve journey. A holly wreath forms the handle of this jug.
