Edward VII character jug tiny - Royal Doulton 1994

Edward VII tiny character jug modeled by William K. Harper and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, in a 1994 limited edition of 2,500 for Lawleys By Post. Almost sixty years old, Edward VII (1841-1910) became King of Great Britain and Ireland in 1901 upon the death of his mother, Queen Victoria. He was a patron of the arts and helped found the Royal College of Music. Long an admirer of Doulton's work, he bestowed the Royal Warrant on Doulton in 1901, which allowed the name Royal Doulton to be used. He was also one of England's leading sportsmen whose horses won the English Derby three times. During his short reign as king he showed great diplomacy and forged many international alliances. He displayed tact, warmth and compassion, and was generally popular. He was succeeded by his son, George VI. A scroll reading "Entente Cordiale" forms the handle of this jug.
