Eagle toby jug stoneware - Royal Doulton circa 1898

Eagle stoneware toby jug designed by Mark Marshall and produced by Royal Doulton of Lambeth, England, circa 1898. Sitting majestically high in a spruce tree, the keen eyed eagle is surveying the ground far below, looking for the slightest movement that might indicate the prey is above ground and accessible. With a nest full of four hungry chicks to feed, her work is never finished and all trips away from the nest are hunting trips. Note the silver rim around the top of the jug and her sliver covered beak. A scraggly branch of the spruce forms the handle of the jug. This jug is beautifully designed and modeled, finished in the highest quality glaze and silver fittings. The toby jug was produced around 1898 and is one of only three known to exist.
