Dr. Bogardus toby jug - Big Brook Studio circa 1965

Dr. Bogardus toby jug produced by Grace Apgar, the founder of the Big Brook Studio Pottery of Marlboro, New Jersey, circa 1965. Dr. Nicholas Bogardus was the first Dutch doctor providing medical services for the early settlers in the Northeast. He was one of the founding doctors of the Health Spa in Saratoga Springs, New York, and later moved to Tinton Falls, New Jersey, where he lived on the Old Mill Road. He is dressed in fine clothes of the time, clutching the stout cane he used to discourage young boys from raiding his orchard.
