Double Diamond City Gent character jug - Beswick circa 1960

Double Diamond City Gent character jug designed by Albert Hallam and Jim Hayward and produced by Beswick of Longton, England, circa 1960. The Double Diamond City Gent wields his umbrella against the vagaries of the British climate. This smart executive can also be distinguished by his traditional bowler hat as he heads for his office in the heart of the City, the financial and business sector of London. Perhaps today he will be making profitable investment decisions for his clients, then strolling a few blocks to the West End to join his wife for dinner and a play before retiring. The jug was produced as a promotional item for the Double Diamond Brewery. The City Gent was a key image in the company's branding and advertising. His hat is attached to his head with a hinge. The handle of his umbrella forms the handle of the jug.
