The series depicts the adventures of a Time Lord called the Doctor, an extraterrestrial being who appears to be human and explores the universe in a time-travelling space ship called the TARDIS. With various companions, the Doctor combats foes, works to save civilizations, and helps people in need. The Eighth Doctor was portrayed by Paul McGann. McGann portrays the eighth such incarnation as a passionate, enthusiastic, and eccentric character. His only companion is Grace Holloway, a medical doctor whose surgery is partly responsible for triggering his regeneration.
