Doctor Who #5 character jug produced by Aidee International of Devon, England, in a 1973 limited edition of 750. "Doctor Who" is a British science fiction television series broadcast by the BBC since 1963. The series depicts the adventures of a Time Lord called the Doctor, an extraterrestrial being who appears to be human and explores the universe in a time-travelling space ship called the TARDIS. With various companions, the Doctor combats foes, works to save civilizations, and helps people in need. The Fifth Doctor was portrayed by Peter Davison. The Fifth Doctor's era was notable for a "back to the basics" attitude, in which "silly" humor and, to an extent horror, was kept to a minimum, and more scientific accuracy was presented. It was, at times, a darker and grittier series, in part for seeing the death of one of his companions and the reintroduction of many of the Time Lord's enemies.
