Devil toby jug in a large size produced by Schafer & Vater of Rudolstadt, Germany, circa 1925. The devil is the personification of evil as it is conceived in various cultures and religious traditions. He is seen as the objectification of a hostile and destructive force. Jeffrey Burton Russell states that the different conceptions of the devil can be summed up as a principle of evil independent from God, an aspect of God, a created being turning evil (such as a fallen angel), and a symbol of human evil. The smaller jug stands 3 1/4" tall.
