Cliff Cornell toby jug large beige jacket - Royal Doulton 1956

Cliff Cornell large toby jug wearing a beige jacket designed by Max Henk and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, in 1956. Cliff Cornell, a Cleveland, Ohio industrialist, commissioned these jugs in his own likeness. He sent them as gifts to friends and business associates at Thanksgiving time. An accompanying card said he was sorry he could not join them, but "place the jug on your table and I will be with you in spirit." The similarity of Cornell's pose in this jug to the Winston Churchill toby Jug was not accidental, as he was a great admirer of the Prime Minister. The base is printed "Greetings Cliff Cornell 'Famous Cornell Fluxes' Cleveland Flux Company". A flux is a substance or mixture used to promote the fusion of metals or minerals. This large jug features Cornell wearing a blue jacket. Around 250 jugs of this beige colorway were produced in the large size and 100 in the medium size. Examples exist with color variations, especially in details such as the tie.
