Cavalier character jug produced by Sylvan Pottery of Hanley, England, circa 1950. A cavalier is a mounted soldier or knight. Dating back to King Charles I of England, cavaliers were specially selected men-at-arms serving the king in the English Civil War. A large feather forms the handle of this jug.
