Catherine Parr candle snuffer - Royal Worcester 1999

Catherine Parr candle snuffer produced by Royal Worcester of Worcester, England, in 1999. Catherine Parr (circa 1512-1548) was a widow and a mature woman of thirty-one when she became Henry VIII's sixth and final wife in 1543. The King was by now sick and aging and Catherine was as much a nurse to him as a wife. Sensitive and gentle, this pious Queen was also a scholar of Latin, Greek and French and was much admired at Court for her accomplishments and learning. Catherine also succeeded in bringing harmony to the Royal family. The young princesses, Elizabeth and Mary, were reconciled with their father and, through the influence of the Queen, the young Prince Edward's education was entrusted to the most able scholars of the day. Despite her enemies, Catherine Parr retained her husband's affection and succeeded in outliving one of the most infamous kings in history. After Henry's death in 1547 she married Baron Seymour of Sudeley, then died during childbirth the following year.
