Capt. Salt The Sea Captain toby jug - Royal Doulton 1985 - 1991

Capt. Salt The Sea Captain 3/4 body toby jug designed by William K. Harper and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, from 1985 to 1991. Old and now retired, Captain Salt, the stern master of sailing ships, is often seen before his cliff top cottage (a former Coast Guard house) scanning the sea with his telescope, keeping watch still. There are rumors of high adventures in his younger days; of a passionate relationship with two women in the South Seas, one brown and one white, that ended in tragedy. He visits often the churchyard of St. Cuthbert's on the Hill, standing before the grave of a certain widow, his craggy, taciturn face lost in fond remembrances. He lives alone and has no family, though it is hinted that he is not childless. This is one of twenty-five Doultonville toby jugs.
