Bulldog toby jug - Continental circa 1900

Bulldog toby jug produced in Continental Europe circa 1900. Wearing a collar with an attached rope, this bulldog is obviously someone's loved pet. The Bulldog is a British breed of dog of mastiff type. It is a medium sized, muscular dog with large heads with thick folds of skin around the face and shoulders. While often used as a symbol of ferocity and courage, modern bulldogs are generally friendly, amiable dogs. A rope attached to his collar forms the handle of the jug.
