Bowler toby jug - Bairstow Manor Pottery circa 1990

Bowler toby jug produced by Bairstow Manor Pottery of Hanley, England, circa 1990. This bowler is preparing his roll on the local village lawn bowling green. Lawn bowling's main objective of the game is to place the ball as close as possible to the target which is called as jack. The balls used in lawn bowling are biased which means they are unsymmetrical in nature. It is a very challenging game as one side of the ball is not proportioned and the ball travels in a curved path. The history of Lawn Bowling is very old, believed to have been played in Europe during the 12th century and it became very popular in England.
