Blackamoor Sailor toby jug made in Staffordshire circa 1800. Wearing clothes associated with an English sailor, the Blackamoor Sailor sits on a high back chair above a sea chest with handles at each end. He holds a jug of ale in his left hand and is raising his right hand to take a drink from a cup. Blackamoors or Black Moors were black people from North Africa who worked in wealthy European's homes or served in the English infantry or navy.
