Bacchus on Barrel toby jug produced by Max Baudu of Villefranche-en-Beaujolais, France, circa 1960. Bacchus is the Roman god of wine and intoxication. Around 200 BCE the Bacchanalia annual festival was held in his honor featuring excessive drinking orgies and criminal behavior. The name Beaujolais is on the front of the barrel. This is a promotional jug for the region.
