Bacchus character jug produced by Josiah Wedgwood & Sons of Stoke-on-Trent, England, circa 1920. Bacchus is the Roman god of wine and intoxication. Around 200 BCE the Bacchanalia annual festival was held in his honor featuring excessive drinking orgies and criminal behavior.
