Bacchus & Pan toby jug produced by John Voyez circa 1790. Bacchus is the Roman god of wine and intoxication. Around 200 BCE the Bacchanalia annual festival was held in his honor featuring excessive drinking orgies and criminal behavior. Pan is the Greek god of the wild shepherds and flocks rustic music and companion of the nymphs. Like a satyr he has the hindquarters legs and horns of a goat.
