American Indian character jug - JR Cooper 1997

American Indian character jug produced by J.R. Cooper Pottery of Canton, Georgia, in 1997. Native Americans, also known as American Indians, are the Indigenous peoples of the mainland United States. There are 574 federally recognized tribes living within the US. European colonization of the Americas resulted in a precipitous decline in Native American population because of new diseases, wars, ethnic cleansing, and enslavement. The United States, as part of its policy of settler colonialism, waged war against many Native American peoples, removing them from their ancestral lands, and subjecting them to one-sided treaties and to discriminatory government policies.
