Alsatian Woman majolica character jug produced by Onnaing of Onnaing, France, circa 1910, model number 808. She is wearing her traditional dress braided hair and colorful bow representing the Alsace region of France serving as a symbol of the lost provinces of Alsace and Lorraine and the French people's desire to restore those regions to France. Germany ceded these regions back to France in the Treaty of Versailles in 1919.
