Abraham Whipple toby jug produced by sculptor Geza de Vegh in Tinton Falls, New Jersey, circa 1930. Captain Abraham Whipple was a Rhode Island hero for his involvement in the Gaspee Affair. Whipple led a group who rowed out to the grounded English sloop Gaspee. The sent the sailors to shore and torched the sloop. The Gaspee's Captain sent a note to Whipple saying he would be hung. Whipple replied "Sir, always catch a man before you hang him."
