Uncle Sam character jug large corn handle - Grimwades circa 1940

Uncle Sam character jug with an ear of corn handle in a large size modelled by Billy Grindy and produced by Grimwades of Stoke-on-Trent, England, circa 1940 with is Royal Winton tradename. Uncle Sam is the jocular name and personage given to the government of the United States. Uncle Sam is often depicted as a tall, thin man having a white beard and wearing a blue tailcoat, red-and-white-striped trousers, and a tall hat with a band of stars. Over the years he has become recognized worldwide as the United States' national symbol. An ear of corn forms the handle of the jug. The Uncle Sam character jug is known in six sizes with this being the second largest. The six sizes are 11 1/2", 7 1/2", 6", 4 3/4", 4" and 3" tall.
