Scrooge tiny character jug - Royal Doulton 1982-1989

Scrooge tiny character jug modeled by Michale Abberley and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, between 1982-1989. Ebenezer Scrooge is perhaps Charles Dickens' best-known character. His name has come into the English language as a byword for miserliness and misanthropy. Scrooge is the elderly man with a heart of stone from the author's 1843 novella, "A Christmas Carol". He is even reluctant to give his downtrodden clerk, Bob Cratchit, the day off to return to his family for the Christmas holiday. Scrooge, with his familiar cry of "Bah, Humbug," and intent on spending Christmas alone, is visited by a ghost of his former partner, Jacob Marley, who sends three more ghosts of Christmas in hopes of reforming Scrooge's heartless and penny-pinching ways. After visits by the three ghosts, Scrooge finds compassion in his heart and changes his ways, delivering presents to the Cratchits, whereby the crippled son, Tiny Tim, exalts "God bless us every one." This jug was produced to commemorate the 170th anniversary of Charles Dickens' birth.
