Scottish Piper character jug - Saxony circa 1980

Scottish Piper character jug produced by Saxony in Germany circa 1980. Scottish Pipers are expert musicians who are skilled in the playing of the bagpipes. Bagpipes are a woodwind instrument using enclosed reeds fed from a constant reservoir of air in the form of a bag. The Great Highland bagpipes are well known, but people have played bagpipes for centuries throughout large parts of Europe, Northern Africa, Western Asia, and northern parts of South Asia. This Scottish Piper's bagpipes form the handle of the jug.
