Sancho Panca character jug - Royal Doulton 1957-1983

Sancho Panca character jug modeled by Geoff Blower and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, between 1957-1983. Sancho Panca is the earthy squire of Don Quixote in the romantic seventeenth century novel by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra. His name, Mr. Paunch in English, aptly describes his appearance, a rustic with a potbelly! However, he makes up in common sense what he is lacking in spirituality; "hunger is the best sauce in the world" is just one of the many pithy proverbs for which he is renowned. A down-to-earth realist, Sancho Panca is thus the perfect foil for his idealistically inclined companion, Don Quixote, who he accompanies on many adventures. A donkey forms the handle of the jug. In addition to this large jug, a small size (D6461) and a miniature size (D6518) were also produced.
