Ordinary Toby stoneware jug version 1 - Martin Brothers circa 1903

Ordinary Toby version 1 salt glazed stoneware jug produced by Martin Brothers of London, England, in 1903. This is Robert Wallace Martin's interpretation of the original Ordinary Toby from the 1770s. This smiling Toby is dressed in a long jacket and hat, finished in a brown salt glaze. Seated in a high-backed chair he is holding a pipe in right hand and mug in left. Unfortunately, his right hand and pipe have broken off. The bottom has the typical Martin Brothers incised mark and the date 1903. This is a very rare jug.
