Nelson of Burnham Thorpe character jug produced in a Rockingham finish by Holkham Pottery of Norfolk England circa 1960. Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) was a British flag officer in the Royal Navy. His inspirational leadership and grasp of strategy and unconventional tactics brought about a number of decisive British naval victories during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest naval commanders in history. Nelson's birthplace was in the small village Burnham Thorpe near the coast of Norfold.
