Mr. Tonsil The Town Crier toby jug - Royal Doulton 1984 - 1991

Mr. Litigate The Lawyer 3/4 body toby jug designed by William K. Harper and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, from 1984 to 1991. John Tonsil the Town Crier can be seen in the Market Square ringing his bell and reading proclamations to the town folk. He is dressed in traditional 18th century costume as befits this ancient office. John was the winner of a national competition for the loudest voice. He can be seen regularly at the Dog and Duck Inn on a Saturday night where his stentorian tenor voice sings out the old ballads and songs, accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Myfanwy Jones, or Madame Crystal, who plays by ear and knows every song of note. Meanwhile, Betty Bitters the barmaid keeps everyone happy by her cheerful repartee during her pulling of pints. The customers join in the chorus. This is one of twenty-five Doultonville toby jugs.
