Mr. Chips toby jug - Staffordshire Fine Ceramics circa 1980

Mr. Chips toby jug produced by Staffordshire Fine Ceramics of Tunstall, England, circa 1980. A wise old owl, Mr. Chips is the schoolmaster for the children of the local forest, teaching all subjects and grade levels. The word schoolmaster, or simply master, refers to a male school teacher. This usage survives in British private schools, both secondary and preparatory, and a few Indian boarding schools that were modelled after British public schools, but is generally obsolete elsewhere.
