James Safe Landing character jug - Coalport 2005

James Safe Landing character jug produced by Coalport of Shropshire, England, in a 2005 limited edition of 300 as a part of its Coalport Character line. In 1978, English illustrator Raymond Briggs drew a graphic novel about a Snowman who comes to life at Christmas titled The Snowman. In 1982, it was adapted to an animated film and became an instant Christmas classic. The story is of James, a young boy who awakens on Christmas Eve to find a thick blanket of snow on the ground around his home. He builds a Snowman which comes to life that night when he wakes up. After several escapades, including a memorable motorcycle ride, the Snowman flies the boy to a snow-covered northern forest. There Father Christmas and a large group of other living Snowmen and Snowwomen are having a party. Father Christmas gives the boy a blue scarf with snowmen on it. Then the Snowman flies the boy home where James goes back to bed and the Snowman remains standing in the garden. Commissioned by UKIC, this is one in a series of three in The Snowman Series.
