Fireman majolica toby jug produced by Malicorne circa 1930. Designed and signed by Emile Tessier, this fireman is standing at attention awaiting the call of duty. Napoleon Bonaparte is credited with creating the first professional French firefighters, or sapeurs-pompiers. Created under the Commandant of Engineers in 1810, the first brave firefighters were recruited from the French Army.
