Elf toby jug produced by Shelley Potteries of Longton, England, circa 1930. An elf is a supernatural creature of folk tales, typically represented as a small, elusive figure in human form with pointed ears, magical powers, and a capricious nature. The English registration number on the bottom of this elf is 724421 which dates the registration of the design to 1926. This elf toby jug is the creamer from an elf nursery tea set designed by Mabel Lucie Attwell in 1926. The elf's left arm is raising a horn to his ear for better hearing and forms the handle of the jug.
