Duke of Wellington character jug - Staffordshire Rockingham circa 1840

Duke of Wellington character jug produced in a Rockingham finish in Staffordshire England circa 1840. Arthur Wellesley (1769-1852) was the first Duke of Wellington. He was an nglo-Irish soldier and Tory statesman who was one of the leading military and political figures of 19th-century Britain serving twice as prime minister of the United Kingdom. He is among the commanders who won and ended the Napoleonic Wars when the coalition defeated Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. This jug says "Wellington" across the front. Gladstone is shown with an axe between his legs with which his is purpoted to have chopped down a tree every morning before breakfast.
