Dr Livingstone tiny character jug - Royal Doulton 1997

Dr Livingstone tiny character jug modeled by Stanley J. Taylor and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, in a 1997 limited edition of 2,500 for Lawleys By Post. David Livingstone (1813-1873) was a Scottish missionary and explorer who made the African continent known to the world. From 1841 to 1856, while a medical missionary for the London Missionary Society in what is now Botswana, he discovered the Zambezi River and Victoria Falls, reaching the east coast of Africa at Quelimane, Mozambique, in 1856 before returning to England. In 1858 he returned to Africa as British Counsel to Mozambique during which time he explored the Zambezi region. In 1866, Livingstone returned once more to Africa to seek the source of the Nile. Three years later concern over his safety led to the expedition by Henry Morton Stanley, who found Livingstone on the shores of Lake Tanganyika in 1871. Their names became forever linked as "Stanley and Livingstone". A globe and navigation chart of Africa form the handle of this jug.
